1051<>
“The efforts … 1051<>
“The efforts of apologists to find genuinely brilliant modern scientists who are believers sound like a desperate quest in a bottom-of-the-drawer scraping noise. The only website I could find that claimed to list "Nobel Prize-winning Christian scientists" found six out of a total of several hundred. Of these six, it turned out that four hadn't won the Nobel Prize at all, and I hold it to be certain that at least one is a non-believer who goes to church for purely social reasons. A more systematic study by Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi "found that among Nobel Prize winners in science as in literature, there was a remarkable degree of irreligiosity, relative to the populations from which they came."

A study published in the leading journal Nature by Larson and Witham in 1968 showed that of the American scientists deemed eminent enough by their peers to have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, only 7% believed in a personal God. This overwhelming preponderance of atheists is almost exactly the opposite of the profile of the general American population, in which over 90% believe in a supernatural being of one kind or another. For less eminent scientists not elected to the National Academy, the figure is intermediate. As with the brightest sample, religious believers are a minority, but a less spectacular one, estimated at around 40%. This is exactly what I expected: American scientists are less religious than Americans in general, and the brightest scientists are the least religious of all. What's remarkable is the diametric opposition between the religiosity of the general American population and the atheism of the intellectual elite.”

Richard Dawkins, ''[https://www.fichier-pdf.fr/2015/05/08/pour-en-finir-avec-dieu-richard-dawkins/pour-en-finir-avec-dieu-richard-dawkins.pdf To put an end to God]'', Robert Laffont, Paris, 2008.
<><><>0<>0<><><> end to God]'', Robert Laffont, Paris, 2008.
<><><>0<>0<><><> +
