This argument is used in the debate Does God exist?.
This argument is an objection to Only the hypothesis of God takes us out of solipsism.
Summary
The subject does not emerge on its own; it is constructed by confronting the other. The other is what opposes my will and thus makes it exist. I exist because the other exists. To say that there is a solitary "I", a Spirit outside any relationship, is a contradiction in terms. Such a spirit could not even be aware of itself. The question of solipsism is a false problem.
