Between 5% and 15% of near-death experiences are negative, associated with the most extreme anguish. In particular, there are hellish IMEs, where the subject sees demons, finds himself in a gloomy place, tortured by demons. These IMEs resemble medieval descriptions of hell; they correspond well to certain morbid hallucinations. Do they not reveal the hallucinatory nature of IMEs?
