Summary[ edit ]
In colonizing Africa, the Western powers themselves arbitrarily drew the borders of the colonized countries without asking their opinion or taking into account the distribution of ethnic groups. In so doing, they paved the way for the acute inter-ethnic conflicts that continue to this day.
