“If the universe had a beginning, it was God who started it in one way rather than another. If the universe had no beginning, the only alternative is that it is sempiternal. In this case, God can be seen as the one who keeps it in existence at every moment, under the prevailing laws of nature. It is by His decision at each moment that it exists at this moment, and that the laws of nature in force are what they are.”
