Summary

Quotes

« [The] strategy [of the false dilemma] is a formidable one, because it slyly steers the debate by simplifying it into a single antagonism. But this antagonism is only apparent: the fact that two proposals are competitive does not necessarily mean that they are contradictory. The false dilemma creates the illusion of "contradictory competitiveness". In the statement "either you're with us, or you're against us", we can find acceptable arguments for not being "with them" without being "against them": there is no contradiction. Finally, the two competing hypotheses can both turn out to be false! »
