The justifications below are arguments that aim to prove the validity of an argument in the debate. A justification can always be rephrased with a sentence beginning with “Yes, because…” or “Indeed…”
These justifications can be:
  • the logical premises of the argument;
  • thematic variations of the argument (examples of justifications for “Western Europe is in decline”: “Western Europe is in demographic decline”, “Western Europe is in economic decline” and “Western Europe is in cultural decline”);
  • studies, testimonies and other factual elements that corroborate the argument;
  • the general principles underlying this argument (examples of justifications of “The universe has a first cause”: “Matter cannot exist by itself”, “An infinite past is impossible ” and “There cannot be an infinity of causes”).
Each justification is the subject of a specific page which sets out its reasoning, its own justifications and its possible objections. Making the justifications explicit in this way makes it possible to deal separately with each of the elements of the reasoning on which the argument is based.

To rename an argument: edit the “Title to be displayed” field of the argument you wish to rename.
Note: to correct the name of the argument page, go to the detailed page of this argument and click on the “rename” button at the top of the page.

To change the order of the arguments: click on the dotted bar to the left of the argument you want to move, keep the click pressed, place your cursor at the desired location and release the click.

To add an existing argument: if you want to add an argument whose page already exists on Wikidebates, click on the “Add an existing argument” button and select your argument by entering the first letters of its title in the “Page name” field. Then write in the “Title to be displayed” field the title that will appear in the debate.
Briefly describe the changes you made in the “Edit summary” field at the bottom of this page, and click the “Save” button.
